Blasdell Fireworks A Success!

3 07 2007

I went to the Blasdell Freedom Festival tonight. A great turn out for a great show. The fireworks lasted right at 20 minutes. We had the just about the whole family with their kids and everyone had a great time.

One thing of interest was a 14 year old girl sang the National Anthem. She was absolutely terrific but we were in the back and couldn’t hear her name. If anyone knows it please reply so we can give her an atta-girl!

I only have one question. Why didn’t the Village Board member who was in charge of the event make sure the railroad was notified to keep the trains out of the way until well after the event. Trains ran through all evening and at the end a train stopped just about everyone from leaving for twenty minutes or so. The crowd was getting a little impatient by the time the train passed.

otherwise the show went off without a hitch. I love the Freedom Festival and am already looking forward to next year.

June 25 Board Meeting

The biggest news coming out of the June 25 board meeting of course was the passage of the windmill ordinance. This was done through a lot of hard work by both the town and the various business interests involved. There were several public hearings and/or meetings throughout the process and the public really stepped up to the plate to provide invaluable input to the process. It is of particular significance to me because the drafting and passing of the law allowed the town to avoid the need to pass a moratorium against windmills. I was opposed to the moratorium from the outset as I felt it would have sent a strong negative message to those considering investing in our community. This was a point that did not escape the public, as residents came out in droves to support the project. The project also received strong support from the unions. In fact, the project manager for BQ Energy stated that the ironworkers for the Lackawanna project worked better than any he had ever seen. This just goes to show the quality of work our residents can do when given an opportunity. Read the rest of this entry »

Here we go again!

3 07 2007

Well it’s official. The Hamburg Democratic Party is out running Independence Party petitions. It really isn’t any surprise to me but it’s getting quite a bit old. I have had reports from several of the IP Town Committee Members that as they are out collecting signatures that they are being informed that a Democrat was already there.

I have stopped at a few friends house and heard the same complaints. It’s ridiculous that the Dems have no IP help. Only one or two people whose family depends on the jobs provided by the Democrats are out with IP affiliation. I’m told Mary Rose Gaughan has been around a lot getting signatures for the Democrats. She is registered IP but her hubby is a Democrat who works directly for Jim Sorrentino as the Assistant Town Attorney.

So far the information getting back to me shows that Jim Sorrentino apparently has the majority of his town committee, who have notary public status, out gathering Independence Party petitions. Well good luck to them. Who am I to stand in the way of Democratic corruption and control of minor parties.

Oh Ya, I’m just the guy willing to fight them to the end. See you at the polls.
