“Blast at the Beach” not such a blast for some!

Saturday July 28th was theĀ annual “Blast at the Beach” in Hamburg. Teenagers abound, police everywhere and parents in lawn chairs waiting for the fireworks to start. Well the fireworks show was OK but paled in comparison to Hamburgs Freedom Festival. The funny part is that the best fireworks have yet to start.

I’m sure that early next month in Hamburg Town Hall there will be lots of fireworks as angry citizens stand in front of Dennis Gaughan, Jim Sorrentino or one of the two Town Judges and insist on knowing why they were ticketed for parking on one of the many side streets. I think it’s outrageous that the Town of Hamburg will throw a huge party like the “Blast at the Beach” and not allow its citizens to park on side streets closest to the beach.

The town expects its citizens to stand in line at one of several parking lots and wait for a bus to transport them to the beach. Then they have to wait again to catch a bus to get back to their car. That’s nuts and it represents the stupidity of the Democratic Town Board.

What was so wrong with allowing the citizens to park on the side street just for that Saturday and let everyone enjoy the show without having to pay a parking fine afterward? I was one of the lucky ones who didn’t get ticketed but I walked by plenty who did. Then there was the kids who were upset their bike was stolen and I even watched as a vehicle was towed away by the town. At the same time plenty of town vehicles were parked in the no parking zones.

I think it’s time for this town government to realise the people are their bosses and stop fining them at every opportunity. I can’t wait for November when we can all vote for change on the Town Council.

I couldn’t help but notice the ‘yellow crime scene tape’ which was isolating an area for about 12 people’s privacy at the Blast on the Beach event Saturday evening. The triangular section looked like a private box at this public event held on public property. So I looked to see if the King or Queen were members of the party being sequestered from the general public. No King or Queen, but I did recognize D. Mark Cavalcoli and his Family ! YES, SPECIAL PERMISSION MUST HAVE BEEN GRANTED FOR ONE OF HAMBURG’S ROYAL FAMILIES ! I must admit, it would have been a terrible thing to have the commoners mingling amongst the King Cavalcoli Family; or is he just a Duke now because he is not running this year ? I felt like walking buy and ripping the tape down; but I am sure such a display of arrogance would not have been tolerated and I may have been removed from this event and detained for questioning by our local KGB.
