What are you signing?

13 07 2007

Every year people show up at your door and ask for you to sign their petitions for candidates running in elections that year. But their are a lot of different offices and some you may not understand. One of those petitions is for the Judicial Delegates of each party. Since this is a fairly unknown office I will try and explain what a Judicial Delegate does. Read the rest of this entry »

The American “Sicko”

8 07 2007

I just got home from the movies tonight. We went and watched the movie “Sicko” by Michael Moore and I have to say that Mike always make such a compelling argument. For those who don’t know what the movie is about it’s a film about the health care system in the U.S.

Mike starts the movie by talking about money and how it has effected the quality of health care U.S. citizens receive. He shows the history of HMO’s and how Nixon was involved in their creation. He also talks about all the contributions our elected representatives to Congress receive and what their agenda reflects because of it. Read the rest of this entry »

Tom Best leading the pack for Hamburg Town Council!

6 07 2007

tom-best.jpg

This past Tuesday at the Blasdell Freedom Festival, Tom Best and crew handed out 1000 bottles of water to thirsty residents waiting for the festivities to start. Tom had a tent pitched up next to the entrance of the festival and across from the AMVETS Post. Tom was present from 5pm until 7:30pm meeting residents, shaking hands and kissing the proverbial babies.

Each resident who shook his hand and accepted a bottle of water was impressed with Tom and it’s not a big surprise why. Tom is the leading candidate for the Hamburg Town Council race this November and his fundraising shows he has a lot of support. “I am very happy with the response I’m receiving from the public” said Tom Best, “they seem happy to meet me and are very gracious with their well wishes”. Smardz says campaign progressing very well.

5 07 2007

People have been asking what is up with the campaign of Kevin Smardz? Some are even on Internet sites claiming he isn’t doing well and having trouble getting the required signatures to get on the ballot. I can tell you that isn’t the case at all.

Kevin has been very busy going door to door like the rest of us this campaign season. He sent a team of supporters to the Blasdell Freedom Festival and they handed out several hundred palm cards and fliers. Kevin insists that he is in no trouble of getting the required signatures and he looks forward to the near future in this campaign. Read the rest of this entry »

Blasdell Fireworks A Success!

3 07 2007

I went to the Blasdell Freedom Festival tonight. A great turn out for a great show. The fireworks lasted right at 20 minutes. We had the just about the whole family with their kids and everyone had a great time.

One thing of interest was a 14 year old girl sang the National Anthem. She was absolutely terrific but we were in the back and couldn’t hear her name. If anyone knows it please reply so we can give her an atta-girl!

I only have one question. Why didn’t the Village Board member who was in charge of the event make sure the railroad was notified to keep the trains out of the way until well after the event. Trains ran through all evening and at the end a train stopped just about everyone from leaving for twenty minutes or so. The crowd was getting a little impatient by the time the train passed.

otherwise the show went off without a hitch. I love the Freedom Festival and am already looking forward to next year.

Steven Walters is happy Windmill Ordinance is finished.

June 25 Board Meeting

Provided by: Steven Walters

The biggest news coming out of the June 25 board meeting of course was the passage of the windmill ordinance. This was done through a lot of hard work by both the town and the various business interests involved. There were several public hearings and/or meetings throughout the process and the public really stepped up to the plate to provide invaluable input to the process. It is of particular significance to me because the drafting and passing of the law allowed the town to avoid the need to pass a moratorium against windmills. I was opposed to the moratorium from the outset as I felt it would have sent a strong negative message to those considering investing in our community. This was a point that did not escape the public, as residents came out in droves to support the project. The project also received strong support from the unions. In fact, the project manager for BQ Energy stated that the ironworkers for the Lackawanna project worked better than any he had ever seen. This just goes to show the quality of work our residents can do when given an opportunity. Read the rest of this entry »

Here we go again!

3 07 2007

Well it’s official. The Hamburg Democratic Party is out running Independence Party petitions. It really isn’t any surprise to me but it’s getting quite a bit old. I have had reports from several of the IP Town Committee Members that as they are out collecting signatures that they are being informed that a Democrat was already there.

I have stopped at a few friends house and heard the same complaints. It’s ridiculous that the Dems have no IP help. Only one or two people whose family depends on the jobs provided by the Democrats are out with IP affiliation. I’m told Mary Rose Gaughan has been around a lot getting signatures for the Democrats. She is registered IP but her hubby is a Democrat who works directly for Jim Sorrentino as the Assistant Town Attorney.

So far the information getting back to me shows that Jim Sorrentino apparently has the majority of his town committee, who have notary public status, out gathering Independence Party petitions. Well good luck to them. Who am I to stand in the way of Democratic corruption and control of minor parties.

Oh Ya, I’m just the guy willing to fight them to the end. See you at the polls.

Why I give Jim Sorrentino such a hard time.

1 07 2007

Over the last couple of weeks people have been asking me the same old question. Why do I give Jim Sorrentino such a hard time on this site? Well the answer is simple. Jim is considered the Democratic General in Hamburg. It makes no sense to jab at the party soldiers that are just following Jim’s orders.

The Democrats in Hamburg have a very secure committee with the cream of the crop on the town executive board. These people work day in and day out with the Democratic Councilmen, Department Heads, town employees and residents. All are led by Jim Sorrentino and his master plan for Hamburg’s future. Credit given where credit is due!

1 07 2007

Thank You Kathy Hochul!!!

Yesterday stories were run and pictures were taken of the tolls on the I-190 coming down. It’s been a long time coming. I know a lot of naysayers would be screaming that Kathy had little to do with this but from my point of view I seen her in front of the cameras at every hearing and court appearance in the effort to remove the tolls.

Kathy wasn’t the only one involved in this fight but I believe she played a key part and she deserves credit where credit is due. Once again thank you Kathy Hochul.
