An open letter to Mr. Orsini and Mr. Kozub. And submitted to the Buffalo News for print in the “letters to the Editor”.
A growing concern has been brewing for months now over who should endorse who here in WNY in local politics. One of the biggest concerns is in the Independence Party. Anthony Orsini (alleged self appointed) Chairman of the IP has endorsed Republicans and Democrats over his OWN party time and again. Leaving his own party members behind and without a voice in the IP.
As a IP member, I wanted a change. Why should it be up to Mr. Orsini to hand out the endorsement by himself? Shouldn’t the party members be asked? Shouldn’t the party have a say so or a choice? That’s why I have decided to run for Erie County Legislator in District 1.
My opponent, Dan Kozub – D, was endorsed by my IP Chairman, Tony Orsini. Mr. Orsini did not call a meeting to discuss who we should endorse, nor did he ask if anyone within the party was going to run. This puts Mr. Kozub on both lines, the Democratic AND the Independence lines. Some choice huh? I will NOT sit here and bash Mr. Kozub for seeking the IP endorsement (or for any other reason for that matter). But I do believe that the people of WNY deserve a choice and a change.
So I ask you Mr. Orsini, why dint you endorse or support your own party members? What did the Democrats and/or Mr. Kozub offer you for your endorsement? I am calling for an Independence Party Reorg meeting. I ask all party members who are tired of being mistreated and misrepresented to stand up and call for this reorg meeting.
Change can only happen when people take a stand on what they believe in.
Candidate for Erie County Legislator 1st Dist.,
Jason Womer
What prvents Mr Womer from circulating his own petitions and then running in a primary when all IP voters can decide which candidate they want. I don’t think Womer has a bitch coming unless he thinks he is a better candidate and Orsini – or rather the Erie Co Executive Board – should have seen that.
