I couldn’t believe my eyes as I read the buffalo News story about Spitzer allowing Illegal Immigrants to get driver licences in NYS. What was even more offending was Hamburg’s own Kathy Hochul backing up her boss on his decision. This is it folks, the beginning of the end of NYS. Read the rest of this entry »

Congratulations to Dick Smith and Vinny Gugliuzza
29 09 2007Yesterday was the official canvass for the IP Hamburg Town Council race and I suffered through it with a lot of back pain. In the end the numbers were pretty consistent with the outcome specified by the BOE on Primary night. Although a dozen or two absentee ballots and affidavit ballots were sent out to residents who requested them only 2 were sent back in. Read the rest of this entry »

September 24, 2007 Hamburg Town Board Meeting
28 09 2007
Provided by: Steven Walters
Last night’s board meeting went long, but went fairly smoothly. The meeting started with two public hearings, the first on the 2008 Fire District Contracts. Most contracts saw a slight increase from last year, but the companies all did an excellent job working to keep their budgets low. Read the rest of this entry »

Beckwith on IR for a few days
27 09 2007Ford Beckwith is out of action for a bit as he recovers for surgery, so he has asked me to post one or two things this week. So you will all be subjected to the thoughts of your humble town supervisor, Steven Walters. As I do, I hope we can all wish Ford a speedy recovery because whether you agree with someone or not, we should never wish ill upon him.
So were does this lead us. . .
The politics aside, there is a good mood in the police department today (something that has been lacking). I had a chance to speak to several officers following the appointments of Chief Kesner and Assistant Chiefs Williams and Conlon. All seem very excited about the prospects this team brings. One officer even stated prior to the appointments he was considering applying for a job in Buffalo. What a difference a few months can make.
I too am very enthused about the appointments. All three of these men bring a tremendous amount to the table. Look for some big changes in the department in the near future.

Tom Best has a new campaign web site!
26 09 2007http://www.friendsoftombest.com/

“Welcome friends of Tom Best”
Please join us in our support of Tom Best for Hamburg Town Councilman.
Tom is not a career politician, he is a servant of the people – for the people. He has over 40 years of Law Enforcement experience. Tom’s platform is one that the Town of Hamburg has needed for a long time. Our town needs a government that works for the people, not against each other and it’s citizens.
On election day, please make it out to vote for Tom Best.
Tom is our best choice for the Hamburg Town Council.

Contributed by: Steven Walters
ATTENTION:
The 2008 Supervisor’s Budget is scheduled for release on October 1. Although this budget is not 100% complete (I am about 99%), all indications are that the budget will provided some much needed tax relief. Check back on Monday for the details.

8 hours and counting down
23 09 2007In 8 hours I’m scheduled to be at St. Joseph’s hospital to have the L5-S1 disk cut out of by back. It’s terrifying to think about it. A lot can go wrong and I certainly hope it doesn’t. I’ve spent this whole weekend trying to find things to keep me busy so I don’t start freaking out about it. Read the rest of this entry »

Just a note
21 09 2007From Monday thru the end of next week I will not be posting. I am having surgery on my back. The doctors are removing my L5-S1 disk and putting in an insert with a cage around it. I’m a bit scared and put I this off as long as I can. But now I have to do it. Like the doc told me, I can have the surgery now or I can have it in a few years. The difference is now they can hopefully make it better and in a few years the surgery will be to replace my liver from all the meds I have been on.
Anyway I’m sorry that the site will most likely be static for a few days. I’m looking for a couple guest writers if you’re interested. Just give me an e-mail and we can talk this weekend.

Note to commenters
20 09 2007I have gotten a lot of comments on the IP race in the last day or two. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 30. Each one has their own prediction and the most recent insisted I lost 6 votes in the re-canvass of the two districts. I just called the BOE and was told that their aren’t any results in from Hamburg and it isn’t even known if the machines in Hamburg have been read yet. Read the rest of this entry »

IP Town Council race update
19 09 2007I went down to the BOE this morning to find out about the 2 districts that didn’t get reported last night. What I found out was that the Districts at Grace Lutheran Church (Districts 32 & 33) didn’t report and the Hamburg Village Hall (Districts Districts 47 & 54) didn’t report. I have no idea why the computer says only two districts not reporting. My guess is that they meant two polling places. Each district only had 1 voting machine so these districts are still up for grabs. Read the rest of this entry »
