Supervisor Walters announces new Town Attorney and staff

28 12 2007

Supervisor Walters today released a press statement announcing the top three town attorney’s for Hamburg. After a long and often tiresome interview process these candidates have been chosen for the positions. I have known for some time what effort Walters, Best and Smardz were putting into finding the people for these jobs. Hamburg residents should be proud of the job they did to find such qualified people. The press release is as follows:

Town Supervisor Steven Walters announced today that Kenneth Farrell of Farrell & Farrell will be assuming the role of Town Attorney on January 1, 2008. Ken is a former associate of Berkowitz & Pace where he worked under long time Orchard park Town Attorney, Leonard Berkowitz. Ken is a general practitioner with a diverse clientele. “Ken is very reputable throughout the community and brings a tremendous amount of knowledge to the position,” said Supervisor Walters. A quick look at John McCain for President

27 12 2007

During the month of October, 1997, some 30 years after the shootdown of John McCain, some 24 years after McCain returned to the United States, a 60 Minutes interview with Mike Wallace aired on CBS. John McCain, being herald as the potential GOPs nominee for President in the year 2000, stated that he was a war criminal because he had bombed, “innocent women and children” Read the rest of this entry »

God Speed Joe Kelly!

24 12 2007

It’s with great sadness that I inform all my loyal readers of the death of Joe Kelly. Joe was intimately involved with my reform efforts within the Independence Party. Many people knew Joe as the former Chairman of the Erie County Conservative Party. He is also a family member to Congressman Brian Higgins. He was also my friend.

I’m stunned and in disbelief at this development. Joe was constantly in the hospital and had a pacemaker implanted in his chest. His real battle was with tobacco. Even though his health was rapidly deteriorating, he couldn’t quit smoking. He tried several times every year and would always return to the cancer sticks within a month.

Joe had many successes with his tenure as CP Chairman, but his biggest accomplishment was the great expanse of friends he gained over the years. He will truly be missed and my heart goes out to his kids and extended family. I hope Joe is in everyone’s prayers tonight. Christmas is in just a few hours and God now has another Angel to help him celebrate his birthday. God Speed Joe Kelly!

Ron Paul gains NY ballot access

22 12 2007

During the month of November Jim Ostrowski submitted a legal brief to the NYS Board of Elections supporting the Ron Paul Campaign. This brief was instrumental in the decision to allow Ron Paul access onto the Republican Presidential Primary ballot next year. What’s interesting and the reason for this article is that Ron actually has a chance to win NY. Read the rest of this entry »

What a differance a year makes!

19 12 2007

“What a difference a year makes” is a quote from Tom Best at last nights Hamburg Republican Committee Christmas Party. The place was packed with well wishers from all over Hamburg and the county. What was interesting was just how many business people showed up this year but were no-where to be found last year.

Mark Cuda and Chuck Morlock were very gracious hosts with open arms to all their new “friends”. Steven Walters and Tom Best were the most popular people in the room. Many times there was a line of people waiting to shake their hands. What’s even more interesting was how six months ago if I went over to Supervisor Walters office just to say hello ,there was never anyone waiting to see him. You could just walk in any time. Last week I stopped to say hi and their were half a dozen people waiting patiently for his attention. LOL!!!

Well I have to agree with Tom Best, “What A Difference A Year Makes”!

Is Hunting Immoral?

16 12 2007

Now that NYS Big Game Hunting Season is over I would like to ask you if you think hunting is immoral? A lot of conversation takes place every year about the pro’s and con’s of hunting. We have all heard the arguments, things like, “there is no need to kill game since you can buy meat at the grocery store” and “killing animals is cruel”. Read the rest of this entry »

Kevin Smardz says thank you to faithful campaign helpers!

16 12 2007

Kevin Smardz held a victory party last night at the American Legion Post on Memorial Drive in the Village of Hamburg. I must say that the mood was very jovial and all were celebrating a well deserved victory in this years Hamburg Town Council election. I knew that Kevin had a lot of help in the election but I had no idea just how much.

The American Legion Hall was packed and people were still arriving as I was leaving. The highlight of the evening was Kevin’s heartfelt address to all and his sincere thank you. Kevin has shown he is a class act and I’m looking forward to assisting him in any way possible during his tenure on the Town Council.

Once again I must say that I’m humbled by just how great it feels to be part of a team that works together for the best interests of our town. The time of bullying and political intimidation is over and a future of working to make Hamburg great again is at hand. Thank You Kevin for a great evening and for restoring my belief that hard work can be victorious and honest, open government is at hand.

Should local Volunteer Fire Departments be allowed to raise your fire taxes?

11 12 2007

If you look at the 2008 Hamburg Town Budget you will see that several local Volunteer Fire Departments put in for and received significant fire tax increases. Woodlawn Fire District received a 13.5% increase and Big Tree got a 9.2% increase. Only Town Wide Fire District took a tax decrease this year,  at a negative .08% Read the rest of this entry »
