I had a reader just write me and ask my opinion on the hit and run of a young woman by Lawyer John Duffy. I’m sure that most, if not all, of you have heard that a young college student was hit next to the “Scare at the fair” the other night and police were calling it a willful hit and run.
I don’t know John Duffy but I do know of him and I’m not in a position to judge him. My first thoughts immediately go out to the family of the young woman and I hope they find some kind of peace and I hope God gives them the strength to deal with this. Nothing could be more terrible than losing a child and this is one of the worst ways it could happen.
As far as John Duffy is concerned, I would like to take the position that he is innocent until proven guilty or until he completely confesses to what he is accused of. I can say that South Park Avenue, in that area, isn’t as lit up as you would think. Just a month or two ago I hit a deer, almost in that exact spot, and I never saw it until it was too late. Of course this was a person and I guess that changes things a lot, but perhaps their is more to this than just some drunk that drove away. At least I hope there is for the girls families sake.
Hamburg Police did a great job finding the guy and we couldn’t have gotten any better detective work out of them. All I want to say in closing is, let the facts come out before we judge John Duffy and then justice can be served properly.
God rest Meghan’s soul and God bless her family!
I can understand where you are coming from with not wanting to jump to conclusions, but for me it seems almost crazy to think this is an honest mistake. Just reading about what happened… its hard to believe he “didn’t know he hit a person” and thought he hit a garbage can. I know the last time I hit a garbage can I got my car fixed in Erie Pa. and didn’t realize that the whole town was talking about a hit and run the same night and same time in the same place he was. This seems so open and shut its ridiculous. My family and his family know each other… but I hope the book does get thrown at him.
To me it seems like he was trying to get away with it, and that screams of Arrogance.
I do not believe that this is a honest mistake. He is a grown man and should know better than to go out and drive after drinking. Anyone who gets into a car after drinking or anyone who allows him to go into a car after drinking is at the same fault as the driver. There is no reason a bartender or a “friend” should have allowed him to go out and drive after the amount of alcohol he consumed. He is very large man ans he would have to have had alot to not realize he hit a human being but what he bleievied to be a garbage can. He is an attorney who should lead a law abiding life and be home withhis family on weekends instead of sitting in a bar at that hour. No need to be out with “anyone” but your wife. It is unfortunate that he chose the lifestyle that he lead because now his wife and children are paying for his extra curricular actiivies.
