Will Double Standard Show its Ugly Head?

31 05 2009

Here we go again. Just today a late term abortion doctor was murdered out west. The cops got the SOB and now he will be tried for murder and aggravated assault. I’m willing to bet the legal double standard will prevent him from putting on the only real defense he has.

I bet that the judge assigned to this case will tell the perpetrators lawyers that he can’t plead Justifiable Homicide. I really think that is a black eye on the entire issue of abortion. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that the guy is justified in killing the doctor, NOT AT ALL!

I’m simply saying that if some doctor is out there cutting up unborn children in the third trimester of the pregnancy and then gets his ass shot, the perpetrator should be at least able to plead not guilty by justifiable homicide, and then let a jury decide what punishment he should get, if any at all.

If they convict him of murder then hang his ass, if not then let him go. It’s time our communities decide these abortion issues and the courts should stay the hell out of it!

Any Thoughts?

Come on Ford

People really like to read your site. It is now by far and away the top political site in the Town. I get a good chuckle out of things like Patty’s Honda, Dennis’ Moose misadventure or Stevie’s SUV. You represent Democracy in our Town. I would ask others not to comment on this topic because it has nothing to do with Hamburg. I’d rather have a good tirade on the BTVFC then this garbage. We know things are bad with abortion but I am sick of having it shoved in my face when I really don’t care about it. You have become one of the premier Town politics sites in the State of New York for a local town. To reveal any possible conflict Dennis did my bankruptcy. I look at your site but this is my first comment.

Sorry you feel that way about this subject. it simply pisses me off that our laws are so double sided but yet we call our selves the greatest country in the world. I put this up for one reason and one reason only.

ALL POLITICS ARE LOCAL!

You may disagree but our national leaders started at a local level and its time to identify the deep rooted laws that are eroding the fabric of our communities.

This is a big one! Perhaps their are others that agree and would like to put in their two cents.

Most abortions cannot be classified as “murder” in any scientific, legal, or moral sense.

That is only one point of view Max. Welcome back to the site Max.

Thanks Ford.

Yes, it is one point of view. To most people in the scientific community it is the point of view that is best supported by evidence. Consider this question: What makes you you? By that I mean what makes Ford Beckwith Ford Beckwith and not Steve Walters? The answer is your personal identity which comes from your mind. It is well established that a person’s mind is a function of their brain; or equivalently, the mind (and thus personal identity) is an emergent property of the brain. The mind is a kind of software that runs on the brain’s hardware (like a computer program runs on a computer). When a brain has not been formed and developed, a human has not yet been “created”. You cannot commit murder against something that is not a person. Hence, many instances of abortion cannot be conceptualized as an instance of murder.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. To me the issue is simply that a living being is growing in the womb and therefor it should get the protection of any other human being. In fact the double standard then again raises it head when a murderer kills a pregnant woman. He then is charged with two deaths, the death of the mother and the unborn child. Even if she is simply one day pregnant.

You can’t hold these standards, then say killing an abortion doctor is not arguable as justifiable homicide. Either the unborn child is a living human being protected by law or it isn’t.

Once again I’m not saying he is innocent or guilty. I just want the double standard stopped.
