Frontier Fails Again!

1 06 2009

Today’s Business First Magazine listed the top graduates in Western New York. WKBW  TV-7 lists the top 100 students to graduate from the full list published by Business First Magazine.

http://www.wkbw.com/news/local/46614472.html

Out of the top 100 students, Frontier had only one student, Brandon Podyma (Frontier), who received Honorable Mention. Good Job Brandon! However, this is a big slap in the face of Frontier High School that continues to hold a top ten budget. When are the residents who pay this outrageous school tax going to get their monies worth from this district?

At the same time frontier ranks eighth in residency/school district population.

http://buffalo.bizjournals.com/buffalo/stories/2009/05/25/daily66.html

And Seventh in school district enrollment!

http://buffalo.bizjournals.com/buffalo/stories/2009/05/25/daily67.html

Our Superintendent ranks fifth highest paid in WNY at  $182,005.

http://buffalo.bizjournals.com/buffalo/stories/2009/05/25/daily57.html

We are also ranked 9th in the number of teachers we employ. (Frontier, 434 teachers)

http://buffalo.bizjournals.com/buffalo/stories/2009/05/25/daily68.html?surround=lfn

But lets not forget just how much we pay our staff. A starting teacher makes  $34,000 until they are classified as a median teacher $47,570, then they peak out at $82,193.

Frontier pays at least 8 managers more than $100K a year. They are:

Frontier (superintendent), $182,005

Frontier (middle school principal), $135,104

Frontier (assistant superintendent for business), $130,233

Frontier (assistant superintendent for instruction), $127,862

Frontier (elementary school principal), $119,344

Frontier (high school principal), $116,347

Frontier (director of health, physical education and recreation), $115,635

Frontier (assistant superintendent for personnel), $108,812

This is just so “typical” of how bad a school system Frontier really is. We have a top ten budget with the top ten enrollment and top ten school district population with a top five paid Superintendent, but can only produce one “also ran” for Honorable Mention. It’s time for some major changes at Frontier.

WOODLAWN FIRE COMPANY HAS ENOUGH BALL PLAYERS TO HAVE THE BEST SOFTBALL TEAM IN THE AREA BUT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH TO MAN THE FIRE EQUIPMENT. THE TOWN BOARD HAS APPROVED CALLING OUT BLASDELL FIRE COMPANY TO COVER WOODLAWN ON EMS AND FIRE CALLS. WHO IS AT RISK? MAYBE BLASDELL TAXPAYERS WHO SUPPORT THEIR FIRE COMPANY THAT IS RESPONDING OUTSIDE THEIR VILLAGE. WHAT ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO NEED WOODLAWN TO RESPOND TO THEIR AID? THEY HAVE TO AWAIT BLASDELL FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE TRACKS. WE ALL KNOW THAT YOU HAVE TO WAIT 10 MINUTES FOR BIG TREE TO RESPOND, NO WONDER WOODLAWN ASKED BLASDELL FOR MUTUAL AID, THAT IS IF THEY ARE NOT CLEANING THEIR LOT FOR THE NEW FIRE HALL!

Get the story straight. The Woodlawn Vol. Fire Co. has no problems answering our calls. You forgot to say that we will be answering Blasdell’s calls too. Our response time is as good as any in the town. We are trying to be proactive. The reason for this is for both the Communities. If Woodlawn or Blasdell get to the call first should it really matter. The outcome would be that the Patient or the fire is taken care of sooner. We are just trying to work together something other company’s may have a problem with. FYI Are you jealous our our softball team. We are back to back ECVFSA champs. I can only guess what company you are from.

FYI I am not hiding my name like you are.

Ford,

Where do we stand in the performance rankings? You are not telling the whole story. Been to a concert, sporting event, honor society, honor roll or an awards banquet recently? They are doing better than you accuse. HS baseball team has gone further than any team since 1975. Middle School 7th grade band just won first place in recent competition. I’m sorry your son did not do well there. You are not seeing the big picture. Thanks.

Who gives a shit about the baseball team, or any other extra curriculum activity course. I care about reading, writing, math, and science. Nothing else is getting your kids a real job in the real world.

I agree that too much money is invested in school sports. Physical education should be centered around staying healthy and participating in healthy activities that maintain good weight and physical condition. Aerobics, walking, jogging, etc. fit the bill. School sports aren’t helping. By the way, has anybody considered how much of a liability is posed to school districts who actively participate in full contact sports?

Who, with kids, is going to stay in, or move to, a school district with no extracurricular activities? If you’re so against them, why did you let your kids participate in them while at Frontier? I’m assuming because the kids enjoyed them and learned some good life skills like teamwork, leadership, determination, etc. To classify all after school activities as meaningless is absurd. Seems to me that you’re a bunch of grumpy old men.

PS: My Frontier junior just aced the SATs by the way.

Common Sense

Ford, I give a shit about kids sports, because YOUR are a fat slob and a loser does not mean every kid should turn out like you.

Confucious say… You are exactly right. The numbers are in the Buffalo news and Frontier did well.

IT all starts at home…if the parents woudl stop and spend some time with there kids 30 min. each night working with them and helping them with home work and making sure they are understanding what they need to understand.

Teachers only can do so much. School systems only can do so much. Its at home where it matters.

Sports and extra activity is as important as Reading writing and math.

A Professional Logician Speaks Out

Your ad hominem attacks debilitate your argument. Are you capable of making a cogent argument that supports spending all of this money on programs which have shown no benefit in enhancing the learning ability of children? We’re waiting, but no one here is surprised if you can’t put together a well reasoned response.

Do you honestly expect me or anyone else to take you seriously when you say shit like that? Dumbass!

I have a clue! A 65% clue! That is the percentage of your taxes that go to a loser school system that has overrated everything. I say drop the sports and lower our taxes!

how about this? If sports is so important for a kids development then how about they limit a kid to only one sport. Make every kid in the school participate in one way or another. Until that happens, your argument doesn’t hold water.

Yea, one more thing. I guess i pay thousands of dollars every year for some teacher to supposedly do their job so i have to also do it again when my kids come home. Makes no sense. If they want a paycheck then force them to do the work and hold them to a performance based pay system. Kids fail = they don’t get paid. Makes even more sense to me.

I’m thrilled that you stay after the district to keep costs down. That can be done without hurting the kids.

Unfortunately, you are supporting the elimination of programs that are good for kids (sports, theater, music, etc.). Since you are a father, and a former coach, I’m surprised that you don’t see the benefits of those programs.

I’d rather see the cuts be in the administrative and benefits areas without sacrificing the kids.

Has anyone received his or her summer invitation to the Republicans Chairman’s Friday night event at his house? Every Friday night (during the summer) a group of like-minded Republicans meet to have a drink and discuss politics and whatever else comes up. In the past I attended a few of these events, it was a great time and good place to hear about what the GOP was doing

Ford,

Did you take part in any sports as a child? What were your reading and writing skills like? What kind of job did you get?

I finished middle of the pack at Frontier. I played Hockey and Football but not for Frontier. Those teams were reserved for the chosen few. Only a dozen kids or so made all the teams and the rest were shit out of luck. That’s why I say its not about team work and teaching the kids the value of sports. Its all about winning and the vast, vast majority don’t get to play. So end the sports or level the field so they all can play.

Just reviewed Board of Elections results on downsizing. It is a blowout to downsize. What relation is Dennis Gaughan to Kevin Gaughan?

I couldn’t agree with you more about the same kids were always the jocks. I got cut from the basketball team because the same ones who played football and baseball were all going out for seasonal sport. Has this problem gone away maybe limit these people to one sport or two sports.
