“A Little Talk”

Over the last week or so I have been taking estimates from contractors who are interested in building a back deck on my house. Since I am active in politics, I always seem to get to the political conversations especially if the contractor lives in Hamburg. We always end up with our “little talk”.

Yesterday, I had a guy from Hamburg here, and of course we started talking about the big political issues. This guy proclaimed himself a reformed liberal who recently joined the Republican party. I asked him why Republican and his answer was ….” Piss Tests”.

Piss Tests? I asked, trying to hide the fact I was completely confused on his reason. “Yea, I changed my party because of “piss tests” he proclaimed again. Wow, I’m thinking to myself. This guy’s a bit odd. So I asked what he was talking about.

He went on to explain something we all know, but never really think about. I was told how his fiance was recently hired by the county and in her pre-employment screening, she had to take a urinalysis test. He told me that she didn’t do drugs and obviously passed the test, but after thinking about it for a day or two, he got very upset. I asked why? I explained it makes perfect sense that our government should make sure they aren’t hiring a drug addict or alcoholic, at a minimum, it’s just a matter of public safety.

He agreed, and then told me it wasn’t about her piss test, it’s about all the people who collect some kind of government assistance that don’t have to take a piss test. After he explained it to me, it made perfect sense. Let me explain.

If you are poor, you can ask and receive housing paid for by government Belmont assistance. Then you can go back to the government and tell them you have no money to buy food, and we will give you food stamps. When it comes time to use a doctor, the public and our government pays for these same people to get Family Health Plus with no co-pay or deductible. In fact our government is wiling to give poor people and their kids everything they need to live, but they don’t ever ask a single one of them to take a “PISS TEST” !

When you think about it, the biggest block of drug abusers are those who are on some sort of public assistance. So why is it that we will house them, feed them, and heal them but not make them adhere to the same requirements that we force our government workers assigned to be their case managers before they are hired? If they can afford to buy drugs then why are we paying for all the rest of it? Why don’t we have pre-assistance drug screening for those who claim they need public assistance?

The answer is simply, ” DEMON-CRATS”! The Demon-cratic party needs these very people to maintain power and if they forced them into drug rehab and then they got a job, well… you damn well know they would become Republicans pissed about paying high taxes to pay for pubic assistance. LOL!!!

So if you ever ask a contractor from Hamburg why he is a Republican and he says “Piss Tests”, You know the story already.
