Skulduggery, Trickery or Genius, You Decide!

23 07 2009

All you know that I love a good conspiracy theory so here is one I have been conjuring for a few weeks. Hamburg politics can’t be “HAMBURG POLITICS” unless there is the possibility of some skullduggery in the background and I think I may have just stumbled on some.

It would never have dawned on me if I hadn’t been inundated with phone calls from certain candidates trying to show just how Independent they are from the Demon-cratic Party. So here is my theory, true or not.

Everyone knows that any candidate associated with Vincent (Jim) Sorrentino is behind the eight ball after he has lost the last two town election cycles. So what is the guy to do if he wants to win the Town Council back this year? His best candidate ( Joan Kesner) is quitting after this year and his other ( Tom Quatroche) is out as well.

So now he needs to elect three new candidates to get back control, but anyone he runs is labeled as an underdog just for being by his side, right? His two best candidates, Dennis Gaughan and Vinny Gugliuzza, would do better as far away from  him as they can get. So why not make it look that way.

Doesn’t it make sense to find a lackey to run for Supervisor and then Sorrentino can secretly back Gaughan? I think so. When you think about it, there isn’t much to lose. The Conservative Party endorsed Walters and everyone knew that was coming. The Working Families Party has a whole 3 people in it so who cares who has that line?

But the Independence Line is very important. Isn’t it funny that Dennis Gaughan just got the State IP endorsement right along with all of Sorrentinos council candidates. HMMMM! I wonder who was pulling for Gaughan behind the scenes? Boy, I just can’t figure that one out! LOL!!! Dennis just happened to be Sorrentino’s first pick for Assistant Town Attorney when Soorentino held control of the Town Council  six years ago.

It’s a cinch that Vinny G. will win a primary for a council seat on the Demon-cratic line. Not to mention that Vinny G. is the Chairman of the Hamburg Variance Appeals Board and was appointed to it by none other than Sorrentino and his team when they still controlled the Council 4 years ago as well. By the way it can only help Vinny when Lenny Kowalski’s fundraiser doesn’t make enough money to cover the bill. You would think if the Demon-crats really wanted Kowalski, then Sorrentino would have made sure that function was packed!

I think Sorrentino may have made a small mis-step, and assumed that Vinny would also get the IP endorsement. That didn’t happen. I personally think it was a mistake at the State IP level and they were confused on who were actually supposed to get our line. Sorry Vinny, shit just happens sometimes. Ernie Jewitt is also a very popular Demon-crat that Sorrentino supported for so many years, and he should mobilize the Blasdell vote to win his primary.

Normally this kind of theory wouldn’t show its head until late in August or early September but the extreme lack of campaigning by any of the endorsed Demon-cratic candidates pretty much makes my case. Vinny G, Dennis Gaughan and Ernie Jewitt, all had as much funding or more at the Hamburger Festival and the three challengers are beating on far more doors then the endorsed candidates. Why is that, why aren’t Sorrentino’s guys working hard if Sorrentino really wants his endorsed candidates to win?

Why did the Conservative Party endorse Vinny G? Why didn’t Sorrentino go to the Conservative Party County Executive Board and get that endorsement overturned for his guys, like he did two years ago?

Gotta give Jimbo some credit here. It takes a master tactician to come up with this kind of skullduggery. He almost had me fooled.

This is pretty funny especially considering that Jim Sorrentino tried to embarrass Mr. Gaughan’s son at the last Committeman Meeting.

The GOP is hoping Ernie wins the primary. The Better Blasdell group owns Blasdell and they are firmly behind Wittmeyer. He wins Blasdell hands down and Ernie goes home.

It’s my understanding that the Hamburg GOP is working on creating the Taxpayers First line again this year, does anyone know how many signatures they have to date? I also heard the Democrat’s are creating their own line as well, any update on their progress?

The Hamburg GOP commits political suicide by creating the taxpayers first line. Steve Walters cannot appear on a minor line because he already appears on the conservative line. Same with the Dems and Michalek. A losing strategy for loser political factions.

Dirk, that makes absolutely no sense.

Haven’t heard a word about how the erie county IP got
taken to the woodshed by the STATE IP!

When is the Erie County IP going to emerge victorious in
its battle to wrest control from the State IP?

After all the huffing and puffing, Walters gets the bazoo
and Dennis Gaughan emerges as the prohibitive favorite.

All the while, Sorrentino’s miscalculation and ineptitude
have become increasingly apparent. His political skills
are, at once, both fading and failing.

The Patty Michalek ploy harkens back to his career-ending
tap of Dave Swarts over Dennis Gorski.

Kowalski over Gugliuzza sent the wrong signal that hard
work and dedication to the Democratic party gets trumped
by cronyism.

Ha. Getting the taxpayer first line makes perfect sense for the GOP. Kevin Smardz got more votes on the Taxpayer First line than Vinnie G did on the IP line last election. They are doing more for their council candidates than for Walters.

Who is running Supervisor Walters campaign, is it the GOP Chairman?

I have seen his wife Beth and father-in-law Joe directing the campaign.

I believe Smardz’s father is running Steve’s campaign.

Assisting is Steve’s wife Beth, father-in-law Joe, sister-in-law Meg, Peggy Morlock (GOP chairman’s wife), Bradley Nagle, Joe Sacco, Joe O’Brien and Joseph Williams.

Just looked at Walters list of contributions. find it interesting that two democratic committeemen who passed petitions fpr Michalek gave money to Walyers…..Ken Nuwer and his family have received three town jobs in the last 12 years. His wife was first…B&G, then he now his son. Out passing petitions for the dems but giving money to Walters.

Charlie Zahm…given a town job from the dems but contributes to Walters.

The real surprise is George Lee…all those years dems gave money to keep him in office. Passes petitions for Michalek but gives money to Walters.

Randy kick their asses off the committee.

Shame on you Lee, Zahm and Nuwer.

landlord if you think Jewett doesn’t have the support of the residents of Blasdell your wrong. There are many people who are happy with what he has done. He also has a large group of voters that will support him. He has many friends and contacts outside of Blasdell.

The Hamburg Republican Chair is working against Jewett, as he helped the village board members get voted in to take over the Village of Blasdell. I think Jewett has a surprise for the GOP when Tom Best comes out supporting him for council……..

I have looked around the village and see alot. Our streets and sidewalks are being fixed. We have a community based friendly police department. Our recreation is the best there is. Have you ever taken your kids down to the playground in the town, what a shame. Half the time they aren’t even open. The Nike Base is an embarassment. Has the Town ever heard of plumbing? There is no reason that there are no working bathrooms out at the Nike base. The Town board should be embarrased to promote the site. The residents of Blasdell have recently spoken by voting down a study to consolidate, obviously they are happy with their Village.

Haha…….only positive things to happen in Blasdell have been in the last six months since Dirty Ernie lost his power.

If you call canceling Freedom Fest, taking away money from the mayor and adding meetings to his workload positve you are crazy. LIke him or not he has done a very good job in Blasdell and has always thought of his residents first!

Ginsberg……no one in the Village wanted the FreedomFest….15,000 people from outside the village trashing the place at an astronomical cost to the Village govt. The liability insurance alone was ridiculous. Go down Lake Avenue and compare it to 10 years ago and tell me that he has done a very good job….youre nuts! Businesses closing (SSC, Bisonte, Hills, Burger King, etc), people moving out(approx. 40% rental rate), crime increasing……wow, great job mayor!

22 08 2009
Ginsberg

Give me a break. At least 10,000 of those people were from the village. The set up and clean up was done by prisoners so how much did it really cost the village? I cannot believe you are blaming failed businesses on the Mayor. Bisonte was beat out by Bella and Blasdell Pizza, Burger King is in the town of Hamburg not the Village of Blasdell and SSC should have paid his taxes and he would have still been in bussiness. You should blame the rental rate on the landlords. 10 years ago lake ave looked a lot worse than it does today! What about all the new sidewalks thru out the village. Getting the county to take over the sewer. How about the Mayor combining the building inspection with the town to save the village money. Oh ya then he set up his building inspector with a job in the town and then gets it stuck in his ass by the same building inspector. Real nice.

22 08 2009
hmmmm

the village population isnt even 10,000 Ginsberg

so…given your theory and with the endorsed slate winning the primary then this is a loss for Sorrentino?
