Wednesday evening Tony Orsini held his bi-annual “Friends of Orsini” fundraiser at Ronanello’s on South Park Ave in Hamburg. Several of his opponents had pledged to picket the front of the building and I was told that they would have 30-50 people with signs and chanting the obvious slogans to stop people from attending. Supervisor Steven Walters held his annual “Friends of Steven Walters” fundraiser Thursday night at Romanello’s in Hamburg. This event was especially sweet for the Supervisor since he has been the true leader of the town after the stunning victory this last fall. The supervisor had well over a hundred RSVP’s and I’m sure a few hundred filtered in and out of the place during the evening. I have heard a lot about Bob Reynolds and how he has been financed from money that can only be considered dirty. I’ve had phone calls, a letter or two, and even had a couple people stop me when I’m out and about. All want to know if I heard about Reynolds taking money from Operating Engineers Local 17? The verdict is in, at least for the time being. During Monday nights Town Council work session the Council voted yes to pursue the next step in building a new Ice Arena. As reported earlier, the Town Council needs a Home Rule Exemption in order to take the necessary steps to put this issue to a resolution and then to a bid to build a new Ice Arena. Last night I was thinking on how I could write a story about the continuing saga on the Walker/Andreychuk proposal without getting into the Recreation Advisory Board meeting this last Thursday. I am absolutely barred from discussing what happened in that meeting, by law, because the Supervisor called it as an Executive Session. I attended the Hamburg Town Board meeting on Monday night. It was pretty much uneventful until public comment opened up, then all hell broke loose. The ruckus was about the Hamburg Bike Path that is being nixed by the conservative members of the Hamburg Town Council. It all started when Hamburg Taxpayers Association Chairman Joe Killian stood up and begged for the Town Council to approve the project. Read the rest of this entry »
Superintendent of the Frontier School District, Mr. G. DeCarlie, is asking for 22 million dollars for another capital improvement project this year. If you remember last year he wanted 11 million bucks for a capital improvement project. We were lied to last year when the district said that they had the money and then as soon as the School Board elections were over they bonded out the cash, otherwise known as taking a credit loan. The Town of Hamburg will officially be reorganised Monday night as Tom Best and Kevin Smardz officially take their oath of office. Tom unofficially took his a week ago at Romanello’s South in front of family and friends that were in town for the holidays. He and Kevin will officially take the oath Monday evening just before the Town Council meeting.
I’m told we can expect a change in several areas. The Planning Board will have a new member and a new Chairman. I know who it is but I’m sworn to secrecy until after the reorg. Their will be additions and subtractions to many Town advisory committees as well. I’m told that the recreation department can expect an in-depth look into its leadership and operation.
I suggest if you’re interested in the future of this town that you attend Monday’s meeting. It will be very informative with more than 35 items on the agenda as of today. See you all there.
